The Sickle Cell Warrior Artist 2022 Special Edition: Focus on Humanity (Unisex Heavy Blend™ Hooded Sweatshirt)

Master Burt is a talented artist from Chicago Heights, Illinois who works with a variety of art mediums. In 2001, to develop his talent further, Master took Fine Arts classes at Prairies State College, and from there, he refined his skills by sketching, drawing, and painting everything that caught his eye. Specifically, Master is known for portraits that reflect his ability to stay true to detail while seeing space to add abstract touches. Master utilizes a range of color combinations to satisfy the visual palate and to bring dimension to his work.  Diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease Type SS at two years old, art has been Master’s passion and main outlet of expression for living with this illness that primarily affects African Americans. His work adds to the current commentary on social [in]justice, Black life, and Black culture in the diaspora and on the continent. He is an active member of the sickle cell community in the Chicagoland area and has hosted many popular paint parties and mentored several young artists. Master often paints pieces “live” on social media, which provides opportunities for conversations about the piece and art in general. It also provides entry and brings discussions about art and society to life for communities that might not otherwise have access. Though Master also enjoys skating, a game of basketball or pool, and reading a good book, art is where his heart is and he can be found in his studio creating, engaging, and teaching.
