Cayenne Wellness Center and Children’s Foundation (CWC) is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to improving health outcomes and decreasing mortality related to Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). Our mission is to increase the quality of life for individuals diagnosed with SCD in California by ensuring expert, unbiased, and comprehensive care. OVERVIEW:

We are a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to empowering persons and their families living with sickle cell disease. We are seeking a Director to assist our Executive Director in leading our organization into its next phase of growth. This person will be a passionate advocate for our mission, embodying and promoting our core values while articulating a compelling vision for our future.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the organization, overseeing all aspects, including program development, fundraising, budget management, community outreach, and staff operations, with the primary goal of achieving the organization’s mission through effective strategic planning and stakeholder engagement.

Core Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategic Vision

  • Regularly assess departmental progress and provide the ED with strategic insights and recommendations for operational improvements.
  • Develop and implement a long-term strategic vision, setting benchmarks for CWC’s growth, advocacy, and sustainability over the next 25+ years.
  • Oversee education, advocacy, and support programs (e.g., SCD community groups, state/national advocacy with Sickle Cells).
  • Ensure program execution aligns with CWC’s mission (e.g., MH&W, STAC, March on Hospital).

Fundraising & Financial Sustainability

  • Meet regularly with the grant team to assess funding needs and determine whether a Director of Development is necessary.
  • Lead federal and state funding initiatives to expand resources for CWC.
  • Ensure donor engagement strategies are effectively managed and that fundraising initiatives align with long-term financial sustainability goals.
  • Oversee fundraising, event planning, and grant writing to ensure financial sustainability.

Operational & Team Oversight (Delegation & Accountability)

The Director ensures departmental efficiency through leadership, strategy, and accountability, while delegating execution to designated managers and staff.

Program & Community Outreach (Program Manager, CHW Lead, Marketing Manager)

  • Ensure program managers oversee day-to-day execution, impact measurement, and reporting.
  • CHW Lead should directly engage the community and execute initiatives without gaps.
  • The Marketing Manager should drive public engagement, social media presence, and visibility.

Finance (Finance Manager)

  • Responsible for budgeting, grant compliance, and vendor payments.
  • The Director ensures fiscal sustainability through high-level oversight, collaborating with the Finance Manager to maintain compliance and budgetary alignment.

Human Resources & Administrative Support (HR Manager, Administrative Assistant)

  • HR Manager should lead all recruitment efforts, maintain job board presence, conduct interviews, and ensure compliance.
  • HR and the Director should work in lockstep to ensure staff performance through check-ins, performance tracking, and proactive management.
  • HR should manage documentation, training, and compliance-related updates.
  • The Administrative Assistant should manage scheduling, meeting coordination, and office documentation to ensure leadership can focus on strategic priorities.

Community & External Relations

  • Serve as a key representative of CWC at community events, fostering partnerships and identifying opportunities to enhance organizational visibility and impact.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community-based organizations (CBOs) and strategic partners.

Other Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and implement team skill development & leadership training.
  • Identify and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all departments.
  • Support organizational culture

Qualifications & Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (required); Doctoral degree (preferred, especially in public health, nonprofit management, or a related field).
  • 3–5 years of executive leadership experience in a nonprofit organization (6+ years preferred).
  • Strong skills in leadership, fundraising, public speaking, and organizational strategy.
  • Proven experience in team development, financial oversight, and stakeholder engagement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in grant writing, nonprofit fundraising, and donor relations.
  • Background in public health or nonprofit operations.

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Receptionist/Front Office professional to be the welcoming face of our organization. This individual will provide exceptional customer service, assist with daily office operations, and support our compassionate team in creating a positive environment for staff, clients, and visitors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Front Desk Operations:

  • Greet and welcome visitors, staff, and clients with warmth and professionalism.
  • Offer refreshments such as water or tea to guests.
  • Answer and direct incoming calls to the appropriate team members.
  • Schedule and confirm appointments; send reminders via phone and text for scheduled services.
  • Manage the organization’s calendar and coordinate scheduling as needed.

Office Maintenance and Mail Handling:

Maintain cleanliness and organization of common areas, including the front desk, kitchen, and bathrooms (while encouraging staff to clean up after themselves).
Handle incoming and outgoing mail and packages, including sorting and delivering mail to staff and coordinating outgoing mail with the Administrative Assistant.

Administrative Support:

Monitor office supply inventory and coordinate restocking when necessary.
Assist with document management, including copying, scanning, and filing.
Provide support with point-of-sale (POS) transactions as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications (REQUIRED):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Project Manager (Scar Stories: A Photo Project)

    • Serve as the central point of contact for the project team, including photographer, designers, sponsors, and partner organizations
    • Coordinate logistics for three major photo sessions at scheduled events across the U.S. and additional locations for the remaining 25 photos
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Collaborate with Warriors to secure photo shoot opportunities
    • Communicate regularly with funders, sponsors, and collaborators, including providing updates and reports
  • Event Management
    • Plan and oversee the setup and execution of photo exhibit(s), including venue coordination, installation, and programming
    • Assist in planning book launch events and public presentations
  • Media and Communications
    • Coordinate media releases, photo permissions, and participant compensation
    • Work with the communications team on social media, press coverage, and promotional materials
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Track project progress and expenses
    • Provide monthly status reports and a final project summary/report for funders and internal stakeholders

Responsibilities, Skills, and Abilities

  • Coordinate all aspects of the initiative, including working with the photographer to schedule photo shoots
  • Manage all deliverables, venues (Warrior Convention, Annual Summit, SCDAA, etc), funders, and community partners
  • Ensure the successful production of a public exhibit and accompanying coffee table book.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-partner projects and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, project management tools (e.g., Trello, Asana), and basic budgeting
  • Experience working with marginalized or underrepresented communities, preferably in the Sickle Cell or health equity space
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Resourceful problem-solver with the ability to think ahead and take initiative
  • Ability to work independently and also collaboratively
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in fast-paced environments

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nonprofit Management, Arts Administration, Communications, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years experience managing community-based or arts/public health initiatives

Social Media Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Increase Cayenne Wellness Center (CWC) and MACHAO Orphanage visibility, reach, and follow.

  1. Create consistent, meaningful content on social media platforms for the respective markets: Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), Sickle Cell Trait, CWC’s Pharma partners, Sponsors, Collaborators and Others.
  2. Draft high-quality content with the support and approval of the CWC’s Sr Marketing Manager.
  3. Develop a detailed plan to address areas in need of improvement on all CWC and MACHAO social media platforms: Facebook, X (Aka Twitter), Instagram, as well as Youtube and LinkedIn.

CORE DUTIES: 

Continually improve digital media tactical planning and engagement strategies across all platforms.

  1. Create a social media tracker for data collection (views, reach, likes and comments) for all CWC and MACHAO educational programs and initiatives advertised across all platforms.
  2. Channel relationships and contribute to the development and refinement of Cayenne Wellness Center and MACHAO’s social media collaborators and partners.
  3. Collect and prepare sponsorship social media/marketing deliverables.
  4. Draft and carry out (with support and approval of the Sr Marketing Manager) any Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and Sickle Cell Trait current and future campaigns.
  5. Draft and carry out (with support and approval of the Sr Marketing Manager) CWC and MACHAO’s sponsors campaigns.
  6. Create a campaigns’ action items, needs and deadlines via the  Master Tracker.

RESPONSIBILITIES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Knowledge of basic medical and sickle cell terminology, communities being served and available resources, and confidentiality standards and HIPAA compliance standards
  • Skilled in written, verbal, and interpersonal communication, time management, multi-tasking, managing multiple projects, and excel and shared computer applications
  • Able to work within a team and with peers and with minimal supervision and independently
  • Able to navigate the computer, create spreadsheets, and shared computer
    applications
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum B.A. degree required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual Spanish-English preferred

Sickle Cell Social Worker

Core Duties:

  • Attendance at CWCs weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and education program offerings
  • Attend continuing education training necessary to work toward licensure
  • Establish and maintain effective working relations with patients/clients
  •  Evaluate case problems and provide leadership and consultation in the development and implementation of case plans
  • Understand, interpret, and apply regulations and departmental policies and procedures
  • Plan, schedule, and conduct individual and group meetings
  • Provide clinical case management and therapeutic services
  • Interviews patient/patient’s social support system to complete and initiate psychosocial evaluation
  • Provides psychoeducational groups to support patients and the patient’s social support system
  • Provides ongoing assistance to patients/patients’ social support systems in coping with stress related to hospitalization, disability, and chronic/terminal illness
  • Works collaboratively with the patients and their social support system to establish and implement a plan of care with a multidisciplinary team that meets the patient’s identified psychosocial needs
  • Conceptualize, develop, and implement a comprehensive system of care program to support patients and the patient’s social support system (a system of care ranging from medical, psychosocial, dental, educational, legal, housing, food, spiritual, and financial stability)
  • Engage with community stakeholders and agencies to build capacity and collaboration
  • Develop and conceptualize evaluation feedback to determine the effectiveness of services
  • Conduct a 3-5 year strategic plan
  • Conduct outreach to network with local, state, and national organizations that are providing services for patients and patients’ support systems

  • Ability to provide leadership in the development and administration of social work programs
  • Ability to demonstrate the concepts of ethical social work practice
  • Adhere to the NASW Code of Ethics
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with staff, other disciplines, and community agencies and to interpret programs to the public
  • Ability to participate in recruitment, selection, and orientation of professional social work staff
  • Ability to write meaningful, concise, and accurate reports and correspondence

Qualifications:

  • ASW, LMSW, or LCSW licensure as required in the state of CA
  • Education: Requires Master’s Degree from an accredited school of Social Work (MSW) or higher
  • Requires a level of knowledge of the Social Work practice at the macro level
  • Requires knowledge of community resources and agencies in relation to health, illness, disability, and social determinants of health at the local, state, and national levels
  • Demonstrates cultural humility and comfort with a diverse patient population. Cultural humility is essential
  • Bicultural/Bilingual competency is a plus
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
  • Computer literacy with the ability to use standard word processing, spreadsheet programs, e-mail (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Outlook), and web browsers
  • Ability to multitask in a dynamic work environment
  • Demonstrates personable skill sets (reliability, dependability, predictability, and an appropriate sense of humor)
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, and training skills
  • Demonstrates related work experience with BIPOC communities
  • Strong sense of discretion and professionalism
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Familiar with dynamics of chronic illness on patient and family across the life span
  • Experience working with patients and families from disenfranchised communities
  • Familiar with inequities in the healthcare system and its impact on the delivery of services to patients
  • Strong advocacy skills

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required:

  • Requires an active ASW or California license as a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Insurance panels – you will need to be on insurance panels so we can get reimbursed
