Compassionate Community Health Worker (CHW)

Maeve Lee

Maeve was born in a small town in Southwestern Pennsylvania, in the rural countryside. Maeve spend much of her childhood on the East Coast and moved to Vacaville, CA when her mother got stationed at Travis AFB. Maeve joined the Air Force at the age of 18 and relocated to Florida. Maeve worked as a chef during her time in the Air Force, which was a blessing because she did not know how to cook at all before. It was during this time that Maeve first learned about public health. When Maeve separated from the Air Force, she moved back to Vacaville and attended vocational school to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Maeve obtained her vocational nursing license, but decided her true calling was health education and promotion.

Maeve attended Solano Community College, where she also worked as a Department of Veterans Affairs Certifying Official for a little over 7 years. Maeve completed her Bachelor of Science in Public Health with concentration in Health Education and Promotion from Kent State University in the Fall of 2020, and graduated with summa cum laude institutional honors. Maeve worked as a federal contractor, working as a health promotion specialist, and finally was able to combine her passion with her profession. Throughout her diverse employment background, Maeve always strived to put her best self forward and treat everyone with compassion, dignity, and respect.

Maeve has a strong commitment to health education, advocacy, and family-centered support. As someone who struggled to understand the complexities of her own health issues as a young adult, she is passionate about empowering individuals with evidence-based information to ensure they have the knowledge about their condition and the ability to advocate for themselves as they navigate the healthcare system. Maeve strives to not only empower and educate sickle cell warriors, but to also stand as a trusted partner and advocate, and will build trusting relationships that promote long-term engagement in the warriors’ care.

In her downtime, Maeve enjoys spending time with her husband and fur babies. Maeve enjoys gardening, spending time outdoors, cooking, and always continuing to be her best self. Maeve’s motto for life is: “Life is far too short to be anything but kind to others, and to have happiness and light in your soul”. Spread kindness. Be happy!
