No-Cost Transportation
Lack of access to reliable transportation should not be a barrier to clinical care, medical appointments, or emergency visits.
Why Action Is Needed
There are at least 7,000 Californians living with this painful, inherited blood disorder. Yet there is no designated state funding source for the no-cost, community-based services that Californians living with sickle cell disease depend on to live longer, fuller lives.
The federal government has defunded grants, and health plans are not covering critical lifesaving services. We need California budget leaders to stand in solidarity today.
What State Support Protects
These no-cost services help warriors reach care, navigate crises, protect their health, and remain connected to the support they need.
Lack of access to reliable transportation should not be a barrier to clinical care, medical appointments, or emergency visits.
Pain crises and other complications of SCD can lead to serious organ damage. Warriors often need advocates in the emergency room to ensure their pain is not discounted and that their prescribed treatment is comprehensive.
Warriors need coordinated care, resources, and essential supports because SCD has profound and varying impacts on every warrior’s body and the lives of their caregivers.
Warriors deserve compassionate counseling provided by licensed clinicians who are specifically educated about SCD.
Warriors often miss work due to the complications of SCD. They must have access to financial assistance to help meet urgent needs such as housing, utilities, and food.
Warriors benefit from education about how to advocate for themselves and thrive while managing this lifelong disease.
Shared learning prepares caregivers to be resilient and effective. Peer support allows warriors and their families to build connection, strength, and hope together.
Stand with warriors by supporting dependable state funding today.
