The speaker for the second seminar in this series Dr. Emily McTate, a pediatric psychologist and faculty member in the Department of Psychology and Psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She completed her graduate training at Saint Louis University and medical psychology internship at the University of Louisville. Finally, she completed her post-doctoral fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. Clinically she has extensive experience working with children and adolescents with sickle cell disease and more broadly with families managing health conditions. Her primary research focus is improving care for patients and families managing oncologic and hematologic conditions. She is also interested in patient-provider communication and relationships.
Dr. Charles Jonassaint, the moderator, is a practicing clinical health psychologist focusing on behavioral medicine and health services research. He has clinical expertise in chronic disease self-management and cognitive behavioral therapy intervention and has had extensive experience working with adolescents and adults living with sickle cell disease. He completed his graduate training at Duke University and medical psychology residency at the Duke University Medical Center. He went on to do a clinical research fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, as well as, a Masters in Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
