Maeve was born in a small town in Southwestern Pennsylvania, in the rural countryside. She spent much of her childhood on the East Coast and moved to Vacaville, CA, when her mother got stationed at Travis AFB. Maeve joined the Air Force at the age of 18 and relocated to Florida.
During her time in the Air Force, Maeve worked as a chef—an experience she considers a blessing, since she did not know how to cook at all beforehand. It was also during this time that Maeve first learned about public health. After separating from the Air Force, she returned to Vacaville and attended vocational school to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Although she obtained her vocational nursing license, Maeve realized her true calling was health education and promotion.
Maeve attended Solano Community College, where she also worked as a Department of Veterans Affairs Certifying Official for a little over seven years. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Public Health with a concentration in Health Education and Promotion from Kent State University in Fall 2020, graduating summa cum laude with institutional honors. Maeve later worked as a federal contractor as a health promotion specialist, where she was finally able to combine her passion with her profession.
Throughout her diverse employment background, Maeve has always strived to put her best self forward and treat everyone with compassion, dignity, and respect.
Maeve has a strong commitment to health education, advocacy, and family-centered support. As someone who struggled to understand the complexities of her own health issues as a young adult, she is passionate about empowering
individuals with evidence-based information—so they have the knowledge about their condition and the ability to advocate for themselves as they navigate the healthcare system. Maeve strives to not only empower and educate sickle cell warriors, but also stand as a trusted partner and advocate, building relationships that promote long-term engagement in each warrior’s care.
In her downtime, Maeve enjoys spending time with her husband and fur babies. She loves gardening, being outdoors, cooking, and always continuing to be her best self.
