Elena is a graduate of UC San Diego, where she completed dual degrees in Global Health and Cognitive Science while volunteering in the emergency room and a local women’s shelter. She has worked in community health roles in India and Mexico, and is excited to do similar work here in the United States. Her experience of the healthcare system (in combination with her educational background) allows Elena a comprehensive knowledge of both the scientific and political aspects which shape healthcare and social policies today. Elena hopes to create an open and welcoming environment for those living with sickle cell disease in San Diego, and strives to learn all that she can in order to help those in her community.
