Ms. Davis is the daughter of the late Willie E. and Dorothre D. Taylor who instilled and believed that education and entrepreneurship is the key to financial success.
Ms. Davis is a graduate of Western New England University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems. After 15 years as a consultant with Ernst & Young and Technology Solutions Company, Ms. Davis branched off as an entrepreneur and formed DND Consulting Services, Inc. She also serves as COO of 56 Sage, LLC offering leadership training to College Student Athletes.
After relocating to Atlanta in 1993, Ms. Davis wanted to pursue a dream, instilled by the late Mrs. Mary A. Baird and the Venettes Cultural Workshop (VCW). Mrs. Baird nurtured and inspired Ms. Davis to “always give back to the community when you become able.” Ms. Davis searched for a space to offer arts education to families that may not normally be exposed to the arts. The search landed initially at Saint Philip AME Church and eventually ended by owning a facility. Onyx Dance Center, Inc. (ODCI), was founded and incorporated in 1997 and the vision was in full alignment and modeled after the VCW to promote self-awareness, self-confidence, creativity and diversity in the youth of the community. Since dance and music have always been an integral part of the African-American experience, ODCI offered classes ranging from classical ballet, tap and African dance to charm, theater arts and piano. ODCI served as an all-encompassing workshop providing various opportunities to attend cultural performances, host guest instructors and produce an annual recital showcasing students.
Understanding the love and positive influence of the VCW on our lives and the desire to share our experiences, passion and love for the arts, Venette Alumni came together, under the direction of Daphne Taylor Davis, to serve as instructors and students: Ms. Davis resides in Atlanta with her husband Kevin and 3 children, Jordan, Donovan and Chandler. Affectionately known as #TeamDavis, the entire family was actively involved in ODCI as students, support and back stage.
